Dr Naomi Mackle was born in Northern Ireland. She studied medicine at University College Dublin and carried on her postgraduate training in the Australia and the United Kingdom where she worked for many years in the National Health Service.

Dr Naomi now lives in Dublin, Ireland with her husband and four children. She works full-time in the field of Dermatology and Laser/Aesthetic Medicine. She is director of the Adare Dermatology clinics and CEO of REFORM skincare, a cosmeceutical skincare range specifically formulated to address certain common skin conditions.

With such a busy working and family life, we asked Dr Naomi to share how she does it…..

Current job

I work as a full-time Doctor in the Adare clinics in Ireland. These are Dermatology clinics that specialise in all aspects of Dermatology but also specialise in Laser and Aesthetic medicine. I am also CEO of REFORM skincare which is a cosmeceutical skincare brand aimed specifically at Dermatology skin conditions, skin cancer prevention and anti-ageing.

Three products every woman should own

As a woman gets older: the first signs of ageing start showing in the late 20s, so we tell our patients in this age group to consider switching to a daily glycolic acid cleanser to exfoliate the skin, a vitamin C 20% serum, everyday moisturiser and a mineralised sunscreen.

With women in the mid to late 40s when menopause becomes an issue, oestradiol levels fall rapidly and so the skin gets very dry and tight. Our HYAL Vitamin C and E Serum has 3 very powerful anti-oxidants to combat ageing and is a more moisturising product, it should be applied daily 2-3 drops to face and neck followed by a moisturiser.

If the skin isn’t very dry, keep Repair and Renew Gel to hand. A home peel that is applied at night and rinsed off with a wet facecloth after 30 minutes followed by either retinol 1%, and intensive moisturiser or both. This will peel away all the dead skin cells leaving visibly fresher brighter younger skin underneath.

Obviously, every one’s skin is different and sometimes you need to visit the Dermatology clinic/Doctor for a consultation if you have a specific skin problem. We have an online consultation form on our website, www.reformskincare.com and this will help answer any questions or concerns you have about certain products.

My signature style is

My Salvatore Ferragamo shoes. Not only are they very stylish but you can walk in them all day.

Recent splurge

A new pair of Salvatore Ferragamo shoes.

Favourite way to spend time

I love relaxing with my book and a glass of red wine.

Biggest myth about getting older

That things get easier. The older I get the busier my life becomes. I think it is a mistake to look at someone you don’t know and think how easy their life is and how lucky they are. Everyone has their problems and life can throw anything at you.

Favourite female icons

I admire any women out there, working hard and keeping it all together. I suppose three women that spring to mind is: Meghan Kelly, American journalist and media personality. She looks fantastic at 52, has a great career, she is not afraid to speak her mind and I find her very entertaining. Singer Adele. I love her music and really admire and respect what she has achieved all by herself. Kate Middleton. It is so nice to have someone so glamourous who appears genuinely nice, in the Royal family. I have never seen her put a foot wrong and really admire what she does on a daily basis.

Trend that should come back

Good service. Standards have deteriorated so much in the last few years. I would love to see real service come back where staff genuinely care about their customers.

Trend that shouldn’t

Mullet haircuts. When I lived in Australia about 35 years ago Mullet haircuts were the trend. My 13 y.o. son is very impressionable and the hair styles are getting more ridiculous by the month. If he comes back with a Mullet, I am going to refuse to let him inside my house!!

How do you relax

I love watching boats on YouTube.

Accomplishment you are most proud of

Developing my own Dermatology business and creating REFORM skincare, a Dermatology skincare brand that has grown from nothing to a really successful business in only a few years.

Beauty tip your mother taught you

She didn’t really. I had really bad acne when I was younger, for years, and I never used proper skin care or saw a doctor about it. I used to use sunbeds to try to clear it up!!!! I hated my acne and it really affected my confidence. I am quite aggressive now about promoting good skin care to prevent acne and acne scarring, because I know what it is like.

I don’t leave home without

My Hermes perfume “Twilly”. I got it as a sample in a department store and have used it ever since.

Guilty pleasure snack

Marks and Spencer’s Scotch Eggs.

Always in my fridge

It used to be Diet Coke but with 4 kids hooked on it, I can no longer keep it in the fridge. There is always alcohol in my fridge, wine, beer, champagne. My 4 kids don’t drink alcohol yet so it is the only thing that stays in my fridge for longer than a day.

Product that should be invented

A Robot who will do all the washing, ironing and cleaning, folding, sorting. We hired a beautiful villa on the beach in Mallorca last week. After one day I thought we had been broken in to, the house was in such a state.

Perfume named after you would be called

I would have to think abut that one. It would be something I would be very interested in creating in the future so watch this space….

Gym bunny or yoga disciple

Neither. I walk my dog because I have to. I am planning to join a gym in September but I have never been brilliant for attending any regular exercise sessions.

Favourite saying

“Early to bed, early to rise. Work like hell and advertise”

Secret to life after 40

Work at what you love. You can’t turn up to work every day for the rest of your life unless you love what you do. Keep your family and friends close. The only thing that matters in the end is having a family that genuinely want to spend time with you because they love you for what you are.
