The Trevor Sorbie Rejuvenate range has been created for extra fine and thinning hair

After passing forty most women will be noticing changes in their hair as well as their skin.  If your skin type has changed over the years it’s likely that your scalp will change as well, after all your scalp is an extension of your facial skin.  Although we often talk about treating our hair, we should also be considering treating our scalp in the same way we would our skin.

What makes hair thin?

Like skin, diet and lifestyle can play a large part in the health of your scalp with vitamin and mineral deficiencies, medical conditions and stress manifesting in thinning, weak and brittle hair.  It’s not unusual for people to experience some hair loss as they get older and losing hair volume and density is inevitable as the diameter of hair gets smaller as we age.  This along with the shrinking of the hair follicle and oil glands, sebum production slows down leaving hair looking limp, dull and lifeless.

How can we rejuvenate and treat thinning hair?

The team at Trevor Sorbie have been inspired by effective ingredients used in skincare and have applied these to the formulations in the Rejuvenate range.  The unique collagen and peptide complex in the Rejuvenate range helps to repair moisturise and strengthen the hair cuticle while treating ultra-fine and thinning hair.  It works in the same way as skincare does, improving the body, texture and manageability of the hair.  The result is fuller, healthier hair that shines.

Rejuvenate Scalp Serum is an intense leave-in scalp treatment enriched with collagen, peptide and procapil compound.  This will calm, relax and smooth a taut scalp and support hair growth.

Rejuvenate Superlight Oil has been formulated especially for fine hair and is very light, making it extremely versatile.  This product can be used on damp or dry hair, both for styling and as a deep treatment.

How can I prevent thinning hair and look after my scalp?

There are many ways to improve the scalp, which in turn helps to improve hair quality and condition.  Keep the following facts in mind when caring for your scalp: Natural oils produced by the scalp are good for the hair, so avoid washing the hair too often.  If you do need to wash it daily, use a mild shampoo and conditioner to prevent scalp irritation. Avoid blow drying every day to prevent heat damage, which can make hair brittle

If your skin type is changing, it’s likely that your scalp will change too.  Remember that like skin, diet and lifestyle can make a big difference to the health of your scalp – skin, hair and nails are the last to absorb nutrients and it takes about 3-5 months for poor diet, exercise or stress to show on your hair.

Help I have thinning hair!

Two of our readers asked how to treat thinning hair, so who better to ask than Ian Carmichael, Royal Warrant holder and long-standing stylist to Her Majesty the Queen.  Ian Carmichael is a Senior Top Stylist, and key member of the Trevor Sorbie team.

Liz asks I have very fine hair and I’ve tried loads of products but none live up to the hype.  What is the best thickening product for styling the hair – as soon as it’s humid mine goes flat.

Simone asks my hair has started thinning at the front and slightly receding at the two corners.  What products would you recommend to slow this down – are there any supplements that will help.

Our beauty expert Nikki Taylor discusses these questions with Ian Carmichael in the video below
