A natural approach to aesthetics – Galderma lead the way

A decade ago, if I had been invited to attend an International Aesthetic Congress, I would have politely declined.

Tabloid coverage of plastic surgery gone wrong, trout pouts and Jocelyn Wildenstein’s altered face, had been etched in my mind. I personally didn’t want to explore the possibilities of cosmetic or plastic surgery and knew little about the procedures or substances used for facial enhancement.

Fast forward to early February 2024 and I am amongst a group of journalists heading to Paris for the IMCAS World Congress, the largest scientific aesthetics congress worldwide. Having met and worked with some of the UK’s finest plastic surgeons and aesthetic doctors over the past ten years, I have learnt that cosmetic surgery doesn’t have to result in frightening faces. Recently there has been a noticeable swing within the aesthetics industry towards skin integrity and slowing the signs of ageing. And the company leading the way is Galderma.

Galderma leading the way in natural aesthetics

Galderma is the parent company behind the safest, most widely used and researched, injectable aesthetics. Their brands, Restylane, Sculptura, Alluzience, Azzalure and Alastin have been created so practitioners can obtain the best and most natural outcome for their patients. Restylane is the original hyaluronic acid filler range backed up by over 26 years of experience and expertise and over 65 million treatments worldwide. Sculptura is celebrating its 25th anniversary, the first and original biostimulator to activate the skin’s natural power to revitalise collagen production.

Whether you are looking to restore volume, relax expression lines, enhance areas of the face or boost skin health, there is a Galderma product created to meet your needs.

Whilst at IMCAS, I listened to presentations given by renowned doctors from the UK and abroad, discussing body and facial treatments, the emphasis is to enhance both naturally and sympathetically a person’s features. To stimulate the skin to behave as it did when we were younger and to soften the progress of time. These procedures are minimally invasive and some with little or no downtime. The rise of the lunchtime (injectable) facelift is here.

Are we all judged on our looks?

Research has proved that we are judged and aged by the condition of our skin. Harsh I know, but a fact that the three second rule, where an immediate appraisal takes place when you meet someone for the first time, could potentially hamper a career move or maybe a new relationship. If we can safely and effectively slow the visual signs of ageing and retain our skin’s integrity, this could be a huge bonus when we need to be working into our late sixties and seventies.

In the Galderma NEXT trend report, Cancelling Age was highlighted as a future trend. The report states ‘Beauty today is for every age, at any age. We are cancelling expectations of what certain ages should look like. We want to preserve age and not reverse ageing’ – I wholeheartedly agree with this.

Where to find a reputable and fully qualified Cosmetic Doctor

If you are wondering where to start to find a reputable doctor for aesthetic treatments, head straight to Alice Hart-Davis, an experienced journalist who wrote The Tweakments Guide and runs the website of the same name. There are few treatments Alice hasn’t experienced or written about.

Take time to find a practitioner you are comfortable with. Any reputable doctor will be prepared to spend time discussing the outcome you desire. Check qualifications and previous work and follow Alice’s Staying Safe guide.

Will I be having aesthetic treatments in the future?

Time and knowledge have changed my views on the aesthetic industry, knowledge gained from speaking to some of the country’s leading cosmetic and aesthetic doctors has reassured me that ‘tweakments’ can have a very positive outcome. I have learnt that many aesthetic procedures are undetectable, friends look fresher, well rested and healthy. Their skin clear, smooth and firm. Can this be bought from a bottle, I am not sure but I am trying to find out. So far I haven’t opted for any tweakments or injectables, but I am much less afraid of them than I was years ago.

As they say, never say never!
