Tomorrow is D-Day, that’s Detox day, the day when I kick start my healthy eating regime.

In general I don’t eat badly, I have a balanced diet, ok occasionally a glass of wine in one hand and a bar of chocolate in the other, that’s balanced isn’t it?  I eat very little red meat, lots of vegetables and salads and don’t regularly drink anything with caffeine.  I rarely drink at home and don’t mind not drinking if driving, but if I have one glass of wine or champagne I always want another.  I can easily go for hours without eating and have done a three day juice only fast before.  So you would think that I would be ideally suited to a 12 day detox, but human nature being what it is, you always want what you can’t have, so this isn’t going to be a walk in the park.  Oh yes I have to do that as well, run in the park better still.

Time travel back two years and I was quite a few pounds lighter, ran two or three times a week and went to the gym just as often.  My days were spent running up and down the stairs doing housework so my body was getting a pretty good workout each week.  Roll on (waist as well as time) to last year when I started Fighting Fifty and my days are now spent, either in front of a computer or running about to meetings.  Sadly this running about doesn’t burn calories, nor does sitting on in my ever expanding bottom, grabbing food on the run and not sleeping enough.  Over Christmas I have also consumed far too much sugar, so I need to curb any desire I have for cakes and chocolate.

The result has been that I have whacked on a few pounds, my body is no longer as firm as it was, I look and wake up tired and someone has shrunk my clothes so they don’t fit so well.  All in all it’s time for a shake up!

Over the next 12 days I will be following the Chris James Mind & Body Cleanse Programme.  In less than two weeks Chris promises me I can:

Increase my energy levels

Boost my immune system

Experience glowing skin

Eradicate toxins

Improve digestion

Enhance my mental clarity

Regulate my bowel movements

Enjoy sound restful sleep

Drop a dress size

Now all this sounds wonderful to me, but it doesn’t come without some discipline, effort and cost.

The Chris James Mind & Body Cleanse costs £120, which considering the box of supplements included in the plan, it’s good value for money, you will also be supported right through the process online.  Chris has kindly given me the kit so I can tell you exactly what you’re getting for your money.

More details of the kit are here.

I have also had to purchase a juicer, this is something that I have wanted for some time but was reluctant to buy because I was worried that I would soon get bored with all the cleaning, and it would end up at the back of the cupboard with the pizza maker.  I opted for the Philips HR 1861.

Yesterday I stocked up on all the fruit and vegetables that I need for the first few days of the programme.  I have noticed using the juicer this week just how much fruit and veg you can get through, piled up in the fridge it looks huge but in no time at all you have a dribble of juice and a pile of discarded pulp.

I will be making juices from Healing Foods Healthy Foods, author Gloria Halim is our juicing expert and her book is packed with information and recipes to get you into eating foods that will help you to heal your body.

Check the blog tomorrow and each day as I let you know my progress.
