Shopping online for fashionable clothes has never been easier

Where can I find a smart dress for a woman over 50?

It’s a question that I have been asked many times during the five years I’ve been running Fighting Fifty.  Finding flattering, well-fitting and fashionable clothes which are designed for you, not your daughter, or mother, can be challenging.  Shopping on the High Street can lead to frustration, whereas shopping online or from a catalogue is preferable; provided you know where to start.

Women’s fashion store David Nieper has been designing and producing stylish clothes for older women since the 1960s.  The family business based in Derbyshire is an international fashion brand whose values and attention to detail is second to none.  From humble beginnings, the company has grown to currently employing a skilled team of over 270 designers, seamstresses, garment cutters and dressmakers.

What makes David Nieper different?

Starting from the first sketch to the final stitch all David Nieper clothes are created in-house.  The finest fabrics are sourced and cut by hand then the team uses a variety of tailoring skills to make flattering yet wearable styles which are naturally figure-friendly, especially to women over fifty.

The David Nieper design team creates clothing from natural, breathable fabrics, which are cool and comfortable to wear.  The range of dresses are created in super-soft stretch jersey or bias cut for an elegant fit and fluidity.  Subtle details give extra confidence, a hidden waistband offers added support and the positioning of pleating and ruching around the tummy can also help to sculpt a contoured shape.  The dresses are offered in two lengths to suit women of all heights.  If you prefer not to show your arms you will welcome the longer short sleeves and the choice of three-quarter and full-length sleeves.

When other fashion companies have taken manufacturing overseas, David Nieper has continued to be committed to producing ‘British made’ clothes.  And their commitment isn’t only to their existing team, David Nieper are addressing the skills gap in the UK by ensuring that the tradition of British dressmaking is carried on in the future.  David Nieper is involved in education at every level from primary through to university and apprenticeships.  They even have their own sewing academy.

The design team is led by Head Designer, Elizabeth Edwards, who has designed for well-known brands including Jean Muir, Betty Jackson and Mulberry.  This experience enables the team to create clothes that enhance the more mature figure but still incorporates the latest colour palettes and shapes which are influenced by the latest trends.
