This week Nikki and I are celebrating our YouTube achievement but it’s barely a blemish compared to Dr Pimple Popper!

We’ve had over 101,000 views on our YouTube channel.  Obviously it’s cause for celebration, and there will be champagne but, who would have guessed so many people would tune in to see us discussing beauty products.

Nearly two years ago we sat down to record our first video launching  a Travel Essentials Beauty Bag and we now record a monthly beauty product review, but nothing prepares you for seeing yourself on screen.

Watching yourself is never as much fun as watching someone else, you see every fault, whether it’s wayward hair, a mispronounced word or dropping a product.  I’m the clumsiest person ever and even managed to knock over the display and spill the water minutes before appearing live on Bid TV.  Every fault and flaw is there for all to see, and maybe that’s why the videos are popular, people are watching to see what I stuff up next, with us, what you see is what you get; we are real warts and all.

Talking of warts, or to be more precise, spots and pimples, apparently YouTube is the place to visit for these as well.  Californian dermatologist, Dr Sandra Lee, has a dedicated following on YouTube as her alter ego Dr Pimple Popper.  One million subscribers regularly tune in to see the doctor perform some of the most gruesome extractions.  She has even been invited onto daytime TV to carry out what most of us would do behind closed doors.  So what is the fascination in seeing  blackheads removed or spots burst, is it schadenfreude, do we really just want to revel in someone else’s misfortune or is there some innate desire to see skin rid of imperfections and blemishes.

Whatever the reason for wanting to watch someone getting their pimples popped, 450 million viewers have willingly watched Dr Pimple Popper’s performances.

Just when you thought YouTube was full of crazy animals, kids falling over and tutorials, you discover that entertainment comes in many guises and people tuning in to find out about beauty products seems completely normal.

So, a massive thanks to all who have viewed our videos, taken the time to leave comments and given us the thumbs up, if you want a more explosive viewing take a look at Dr Pimple Popper’s channel because you won’t find any spots on ours!
