ASKED BY BERNARRD

My hair is splitting. Is a drastic cut the only thing I can do to stop it?

No. Hair splitting occurs when hair is not sufficiently hydrated. Heated styling tools, chemical treatments and ageing all contribute to dehydration. However, you can repair the hair by taking a holistic approach – a good diet, drinking plenty of water and using good quality haircare products. I recommend using an intensive treatment once or twice a week to nourish the hair. Look out for products containing plenty of emollients such as pro-vitamin B5 and avocado oil. Avoid those containing synthetic silicones as they coat the hair and give the impression of hydration but can be drying over time. Split ends, if left unchecked, can work their way upwards hair dull and unmanageable, so invest in regular trims.
