Three generations of my family discuss skincare and what’s really working for us

If you are looking to read about the new No7 Future Renew serum – read about it HERE!

We look to our mothers for a glimpse into the future; will we age as well as she has.  Some of my earliest memories of my mother are of her sitting at her dressing table applying skincare, spritzing Estee Lauder Youth Dew and getting ready for a night out.  She was a trend setter in the 60s always changing the colour of her hair, sometimes even to match an outfit.  My mother has always taken her appearance seriously and made sure that she was always READY to face the day.

She would tell my sister and I that we should never leave the house without lipstick.  All these years later I’ve found out that my grandmother said the same.  We always apply lipstick before leaving the house – well, it’s a family tradition.

Mother and Grandmother

My mother’s passion for all things beauty definitely rubbed off on me; I loved makeup as a teenager and even spent my entire first wage packet on a bottle of Yves Saint Lauren Rive Gauche.  Saturday mornings were spent wandering the aisles of Boots trying and testing and the excitement of a new product is the same now as it was then.

I hope that I have passed on some good tips to my daughter Charlotte, she’s more relaxed about makeup than me or my mother but equally concerned about skincare.  At 30 she is looking to protect her skin and prevent premature ageing.  While Marji and I are looking to address the signs of ageing, repair some of the damage that happened when we were younger and prevent any more happening.

My mother and daughter join me to talk about skincare

Although we are always talking about skincare we have never sat down together in front of a camera to discuss it.  So, here we are three generations of one family talking about our skin, products we use and the mistakes we’ve made – come and join us.

What unites us all is our love of serums.  It’s the lightweight formulations that can easily penetrate deep into your skin and quickly target concerns that make them an essential part of our skincare regimes.  And lucky for us No7 has a serum that works at each different stage of our life.

Three Generations – Three Serums – One Brand

No7 Protect & Perfect Intense

Charlotte has been using Protect & Perfect Intense; this is the serum that got all the press attention ten years ago when the BBC Horizon programme carried out research on it.  When Horizon revealed that Protect & Perfect was as effective as No7 claimed, the serum sold out immediately and caused queues in store and huge waiting lists.  In recent years the serum has been reformulated to be even more effective.

Charlotte avoids heavy moisturisers and found that the serum was enough to keep her skin hydrated with just a light moisturiser.  And that her skin looked brighter and more even toned after using it.  She particularly liked that the serum is fragrance free and hypo-allergenic as she can suffer from hormonal breakouts and her skin is often sensitive.  Protect & Perfect Intense has given her confidence that she is doing all she can to slow down the signs of ageing while protecting her skin from future damage.  And she promises to remember to wear an SPF every day!  Let’s hope I have drummed that into her.

No7 Serums

No7 Lift & Luminate Triple Action Serum

I’ve been testing the Lift & Luminate range and my skin looks more even toned smoother – and lines are less obvious.  I like the fact that the Lift & Luminate serum contains hyaluronic acid, which helps skin retain moisture but I do still need to use a moisturiser.  The Lift & Luminate Day and Night Creams work in perfect synergy with the Triple Action Serum and keep my skin well hydrated.  Preventing sagging skin is now high on my agenda and Lift & Luminate is true to its word it does make skin feel firmer and works quite quickly, I saw a difference after the first month.

No7 Restore & Renew Face & Neck Multi Action Serum

My mother Marji, at 75, has the loveliest skin.  She puts this down to never smoking or drinking heavily and really taking good care of her skin.  Marji has been testing the latest No7 serum, the Restore & Renew Face & Neck Serum, which has been formulated to give 5 anti-ageing results.   When you are over 70 you need to bring in the big guns and Restore & Renew is a powerful weapon against skin ageing.  Using a skin fortifying complex of amino acids, ceramides and calcium, the serum nourishes the skin while smoothing and firming.

Marji found that her skin looked more radiant after using Restore & Renew serum and definitely smoother and softer.  And she could use it under a tinted moisturiser without it feeling heavy or clogging her skin.

Three No7 Serums

Why choose a No7 Serum?

Clinical research is so important and all No7 serums have been clinically tested and proven to work.  This gives you confidence when choosing a serum that is targeted to your age group and skin concerns.  All No7 serums work intensively and quickly, you can even see results in as little as two weeks.  They are easily incorporated in to your usual skincare regime and can be used alone or with additional moisturisers.

Whether you are 30 or 75, No7 have you covered; they have a serum that will work for you.  Rather than trying to anti-age (as if it were possible) what we are all looking for regardless of age is healthy skin.  Lines and wrinkles are part and parcel of the ageing process but we can keep them to the minimum, radiant skin is possible with a good diet, a little exercise and a great serum in your skincare regime.
