An exciting alternative to the usual 50 plus holidays

The Rise of Cooking Holidays

Not only are the over 50s taking more holidays than any other demographic, they are also emerging as the most adventurous and original travellers.  I set up Flavours of France in 2011 to offer cooking and wine holidays aimed at the over 50s, for those wishing to come back from holiday with a new skill rather than simply a sunburn.

As well as mastering French cooking, our holidays offer the perfect opportunity to meet like-minded people who share your curiosity of the world.

The Rise of Single and Solo Holidays

A third of the UK’s 21 million over 50s are single and a large proportion will travel solo. Activity holidays can make the idea of travelling solo less of a daunting prospect.

Many worry about the idea of dining alone or being surrounded by couples and families. On a Flavours of France holiday, you do not have to worry about dining alone, but there is also plenty of free time if you wished to explore the area independently. Travelling solo on a learning holiday is the perfect way to explore new places whilst having the comfort of doing group activities such as cooking classes.

Seaside, City and Countryside Cooking Holidays

If you love being by the sea try our 4 day cooking course in the seaside town of La Rochelle. You will learn to prepare fresh seafood with the help of French chef and butter enthusiast, Laurent. The region is famous for its wonderfully creamy Echiré butter – this course is ideal for those who want to indulge.

If a city break is more your thing we have a 5 day cooking break in Lyon, known as France’s food capital. Home to 14 Michelin starred restaurants it is a food lover’s paradise. Our cooking course includes learning to make classic French dishes, beautifully presented. You will have a chance to visit the nearby Beaujolais vineyards too on a one day wine tasting trip.

Lastly, if you seek rest and relaxation our 6 day cooking holiday in the Dordogne is perfect. Staying in a beautiful historic 18th century Chateau surrounded by vineyards, you will learn to prepare regional specialities from a French master chef. After cooking your gourmet dishes, you can relax by the outdoor pool or explore the nearby town of Bergerac.

What Our Guests Say – But don’t take our word for it; here is what our previous guests have to say:

Maria Harper – aged 55 – 4 Day Cooking Holiday in La Rochelle
This was the first time I have travelled on my own, but I could not have felt more comfortable on this cooking course. I’ve learnt so much more than I thought I would and the best thing is that I have made new, lifelong friends.

Diane Lovett – aged 51 – 5 Day Cooking Holiday in Lyon
The cooking course was excellent, there was a good balance of cooking and relaxing. Going to the Beaujolais was the highlight of our trip, our local guide Pauline was very knowledgeable.

So next time you are planning a trip abroad and want to try something a little different, go on a cooking holiday!
