BB Creams are an ideal product, suitable for mature skin and women over 50

Sadly, this product is no longer available in the UK

What is a BB Cream?

Although relatively new to this country BB Creams, Blemish Balms or Beauty Balms as they are known, were developed in the 1950s by a German dermatologist to soothe and cover skin following treatment. Their popularity grew in the Far East before finally reaching our shores.

Combining moisturiser, primer, concealer, foundation, sunscreen and anti-ageing nutrients all in one tube, BB Creams are the must have travel item.

Is a BB Cream good for mature skin?

Yes it is because it’s lightweight, protective and repairing as well as giving an even skin tone.  You will still need to use serum and moisturiser if your skin is dry.  BB Creams are a good alternative to tinted moisturisers and foundations.  Less is definitely more as you get older and BB Creams are less likely to settle into lines.

Which BB Cream is best?

I’ve tested a number of BB Creams including Estee Lauder Day Wear BB Cream, Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector, Dr Jart SPF 25 Beauty Balm, The Body Shop BB Cream and Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream; I can tell you the clear winner is Ginvera Green Tea BB Cream which is also the beauty bloggers favourite.

How do you use a BB Cream?

Having a mature skin I moisturise before using any BB cream or foundation, leaving plenty of time for it to sink in.  If you are prone to oilier skin this might not be necessary.

Ginvera Green Tea Nude Cover has a Nano fine texture which spreads easily, you only need to use a small amount to achieve a flawless, fresh and dewy finish.  The colour is quite pale when you first apply it and warms to your skin tone quickly.  As someone who frequently has a problem with foundations turning orange it’s a relief to find a product which adapts in a subtle and flattering way.

The coverage is surprisingly good for such a fine cream, it’s great at covering dark circles and doesn’t settle into lines, if applied with a small brush blemishes are totally invisible.  The lasting power is fantastic; I’ve tested this under studio lights for a day’s filming and away on holiday where the SPF 30 came into its own.  It doesn’t budge!  Lightweight enough to feel like your skin can still breathe and easy to remove at the end of the day.

Other benefits:

The addition of Green Tea, Ginseng, Chinese Angelica and Hyaluronic Acid mean that you are getting skincare benefits all day long, protecting, hydrating and repairing.  As this one product can be used to cover, conceal and protect, you don’t need so many products in your makeup bag, saving you time and money.

Key ingredients in BB Creams will protect and repair mature skin while flattering it at the same time.
