Just over 5 years ago my body started ‘performing’ – let’s call it ‘random jerky-arm-syndrome’

This resulted in friends mostly covered in wine, my knees seemingly going weak and having trouble keeping my balance. It was just odd.  It came from nowhere. In a nutshell I was worried and I went to the doctors ……. a-lot.

Baffled they eventually, some 18 months later, sent me to see a neurologist.  What followed were numerous tests –mainly knocking my knees with a little hammer and several MRI Scans.  I came away a.) Knowing what a Guinea pig must feel like b.) Diagnosed with a condition called Cataplexy.

In a nutshell Cataplexy is a brain/muscle disorder which is triggered by emotions.  You laugh or maybe you cry and several things could happen.  For example your legs may buckle as though you are going to collapse; sometimes you do – much to my friend’s amusement.  Your arm may decide to randomly fling themselves sideways throwing wine (or whatever you are drinking) all over the floor, or god-forbid, the person next to you.  This has happened on a few occasions.  For me it’s the left hand side of my body.  My head droops and I pull the weirdest face.  Thankfully an episode only lasts a few seconds, but it is so blinking annoying – I laugh a lot, I cry at films you’re not supposed too, and people who are not aware of my condition probably just think I am plain weird – grasping onto walls, pulling faces and so on.

I was advised by the Neurologist that Cataplexy is almost always accompanied by either full-on or mild Narcoplexy – that’s the one where you fall asleep anywhere and everywhere at the drop of a hat.  Gosh this was going to be fun! In my younger days being a bit of a party animal, on the constant look out for fun I don’t think I slept out of choice between the ages of 16 and 28.  Yep it was coming back to haunt me – my body’s revenge!

Mr Neurologist also advised that while cataplexy was not life threatening, I should protect my head if I fell and I may at times just feel a little more tired than I was used too.  Apparently it can affect your sleep pattern; you may feel wide awake during the early hours of the morning but tired during the day.  To avoid this I needed to keep my mind stimulated and stay away from breads, pasta and coffee during the day which would make me feel sluggish.  I love pasta, I love bread, I live on coffee – my work is not always stimulating, most days it’s down -right boring.  Oh oh.

So introductions & (long-winded) explanations over; It was during a twitter conversation with Tracey from Fighting Fifty that centred mainly around the above and feeling constantly tired when she asked me whether I would be interested in testing Femergy, maybe doing a review for her new website?  I snapped her hands off.  What was there to lose, I will try anything once.  If you told me sitting with a banana skin on my forehead would help, guess who would be sat with just that on their forehead.  Feeling constantly tired, is well, for want of a better word – tiring!

So for the science:

Femergy is a daily supplement aimed at today’s busy woman.  It comes in tablet form and is easy to administer; you simply take 2 tablets daily.  Designed to give you added/immediate energy I had heard good reports but I was keen to see what, if anything, it could do for me.

Femergy contains a powerful combination of nature’s pure energy-givers, which are gentle enough for regular use; they provide raw carbohydrates which are used by the brain and body to turn into immediate energy.  Enhancing blood flow around the body, it speeds oxygen supply to all the major organs.  It may also help to restore libido and increase sexual alertness, which could never be a bad thing. It is 100% caffeine and sugar free and is suitable for vegetarians.  It is not tested on animals.  It sounds like the perfect ‘pick me up’ pill.

Ingredients per 2 capsules include: Peruvian Maca 500mg, Ginkgo Biloba 5000mg, Cayenne Pepper 50mg, Brazilian Ginseng (Suma) 200mg, Grape Seed Extract 500mg. Hydroxypropylmethyl Cellulose, Silicon Dioxide, Vegetable Magnesium Stearate.

I am not a pessimist but I did not have high hopes that Femergy would make a difference.  In the past I have tried everything and anything from Siberian Tiger tablets ‘something or other’ too Busy B tablets – all which had no effect?

So did Femergy make a difference?

I would love to say yes but unfortunately for me the difference was slight if anything at all.

I have to say that on some days my energy levels seemed increased but then the following day I would be just as tired, maybe more so than the day before.  It was not constant.

So taking into consideration all of the above and to conclude it is not something I would re-purchase, but after saying that I am a difficult customer to satisfy.

Always keen to end on a positive note – if it made a slight difference to me with my ‘condition’ just think what it could do for you, a ‘normal person’ you might be giving Super Woman a run for her money anytime soon.

Sadly for me the quest continues …….
