A study has suggested that it’s not talent, hard work or education, but sheer confidence that’s key to career success.

Is it only true for careers or is this true for life in general?

Having confidence, believing in yourself and being positive are attributes that help you in all walks of life.  They certainly help as we get older, is there anything more alluring than a woman who walks into a room with her head held high, and a smile on her face?

Star Monroe is the UK’s leading empowerment and confidence expert; she’s a published author, inspirational speaker, entrepreneur and creator of The LUXE Retreat.  Star Monroe knows how to make an entrance, not only does she walk the walk; she talks the talk as well.  Having overcome a cocaine and alcohol addiction using her own philosophy on How to be a Woman, she is now in her prime and living life on her own terms.

Here she shares with us 10 fabulous ways to make you feel more confident (and sexy)

I live by the saying that the more confident a woman feels, the sexier she feels.  And when a woman feels sexy she feels happy, and don’t you just want to be around happy, confident, sexy woman?!! It’s not the shape of our bodies, nor the size of our waist that makes us feel and look sexy.  It’s how confident we feel and act.  So inspired by this I have complied my top 10 ideas that will instantly make you feel more confident (and sexy!)

Stop with the negative jokes you make about your body

Did you know that even casual, half kidding jokes that you make about your body get lodged in our brains as the truth.  Gorgeous ones just know that you are in control of your thoughts and therefore how your feel, stop with the put downs and the wise cracks, get into the habit of censoring yourself every time you are about to utter a derogatory comment.

Big up your positives

Remember you are unique and there is no one else quite like you.  You may have great legs or great arms or you may just enjoy how the curve of your hips look when you wear that special dress.  You may love that you are really funny and can make people laugh or that you are compassionate and care for people.  Play up the parts of you that you love and that come naturally to you.  Accentuate your strong points and be proud of your uniqueness.

Work it girl! When you walk

Master a confident stride.  It oozes self-confidence and there is nothing sexier than that!  To strut your stuff, stand tall, and keep your spine elongated.  Roll your shoulders back and down and let your hands swing at your sides as you put one foot slightly in front of the other (we are working towards a catwalk sashay).  Take your time when you walk – a slightly languorous pace demands attention and says “I’m just too darn hot to be rushed”.

Dance/move/stretch

Our bodies are made to move and when we don’t, they ache because of that.  Find something that you LOVE to do, whether that is to dance, to stretch, to work out in the gym or to go out for a brisk walk.  Commit to move your body daily it will create the positive momentum that you can build on throughout your day and you are going to get super toned and energetic too.

Wear clothes that delight your body

You may think that your baggy clothes make you feel better when you are feeling down, but you are actually perpetuating that negative mind set every time you slip them on.  Dressing well reinforces that your body is special and deserves beautiful clothes.  There is a multitude of clothes shops out there, book out an afternoon to yourself, go shopping, experiment with different styles and dress your body well.

Smile and practice gratitude

Smile, go on I know you want to.  This simple, free, tiny little pleasure brings so much goodness into your life and that of others.  Smile at yourself in the mirror and smile at others when you are going about your day.   Also set aside time each day to mentally list everything you have to be grateful for.  Recall your past successes, unique skills, and all the things that you are proud of.  This simple act will propel you forward with feeling so good about yourself.  Twin your gratitude practice with a smile and you’ve got a sure fire way to make you feel great in under 5 mins.

Flirt

When you are stuck in a social situation where you feel awkward or you think you look rubbish, you will probably try to blend in with the woodwork, which only makes you feel worse.  So take a breath, and conjure up your feminine wiles and have fun trying to charm various people.  Flirting will take your attention away from yourself consciousness, you get to meet people you wouldn’t have met and you also get to have fun!

No more ‘what if’s’

Too many of us think that life would be better if we lost a few pounds, had longer legs etc etc.  Well, guess what?  Even if you had those things, you probably would find something else to complain about.  It never stops because this way of thinking is a mind-set, not a real problem.  You have to be happy with who you are now.  Every time you find yourself envying another woman’s assets, stop and acknowledge something that you like about yourself.  Also ask yourself the question “am I looking after myself the best I can do right now” normally if the answer to this question is yes – you won’t have time to be comparing yourself to others.

Down put others down.

Surprisingly, bitching about other women’s looks actually hurts your self-image as much as envying them does.  The less you judge others, the less you will judge yourself.

Fake it until you make it!

You know how some actresses become so immersed in their roles that they practically become their characters?  Well, taking on a confident, sexy persona can actually help you feel like a confident, sexy woman.  If you make a conscious effort to act self-assured, eventually you will begin to believe it.  Check out your mannerisms – lose the folded arms and slouchy posture.  Have fun projecting confidence through your body language.

Confident people mark their territory so hold your head up high and act like the goddess you were born to be!
